Info Gluttony

Actually, Not Everyone Knows

Posted in law, thinking about cities by echan on March 19, 2011

Yes, hot on my complaint about the Times‘ paywall, I’m going to link to this article about civil rights violations in San Francisco’s SRO’s (essentially, it discusses the real life corollaries to those police thriller scenes where the cops get the seedy hotel operator to open a guest’s door with the master key.). This bit of info jumped out at me, because it’s new to me, and it explains a lot about the character of the Loin and the Mission:

“Everyone knows in the city that if you want to get heroin, you go to the Mission,” said Richard Marquez, a longtime S.R.O. tenants’ rights advocate. “If you want crack cocaine, you go to the Tenderloin.”
