What’s the Difference Between Clinton And Romney

Posted in politics by echan on June 6, 2008

Now that it seems settled that Barack Obama is the Democratic Party’s Nominee, one issue that needs resolution is Senator Clinton’s campaign debt.  She’s currently about $20 million in the hole (or $31 million, if you include the money that she lent herself).

One thing that I’m confused about is why that debt exists at all if the Clintons earned $109 million in the 8 years since they’ve left that White House. Why did Hillary lend her campaign the money, instead of straight out giving it to her campaign, if she is spectacularly wealthy? Mitt Romney spent $42.3 million in his failed bid this year for the GOP nomination (his net worth is somewhere in the range $190 million to $250 million). If he could spend around 10% of his income in his pursuit of the Presidency, I don’t under why Senator Clinton isn’t expected to do the same.

she must have known she would lose in the end. it wouldn’t make sense just giving away all that money for an inevitable lost cause (GO OBAMA!) 🙂
