Happy New Year – Welcome to 1984!

Posted in politics, privacy by echan on January 4, 2008

With the exception of the Lives of Others, which was set in the 1980s, I cannot think of a better film from 2007 that depicted the concept of “Big Brother,” other than The Bourne Ultimatum. The surveillance scenes at Waterloo Station do a decent job in showing that Orwell was right, particularly in predicting the rise of a surveillance society under Tony Blair’s term as PM in Britain.

But not to be left behind, in the U.S. the TSA can now pull you aside for that extra screening depending on your mood, and closer to home, we’re getting parking meters that photograph one’s license plates.
