They don’t wash their hands after using the WC. Think about this the next time you eat out or come down with food poisoning.

I always wash my hands afterward (and I’m not just saying that :P) but, to be fair, there are times when I do it more out of habit than necessity. Sometimes it’s possible to number one without getting a single drop on my hands, and with sensor-based urinals, without touching anything public. In that case, I don’t really feel that it’s necessary. In fact, I can imagine opening the door on the way out making dirtying my hands more than anything else.

That said, better safe than sorry.

I guess what I was trying to say is that urinal usage and toilet usage probably have different profiles as to how much it gets your hands dirty, and the study makes no attempt to distinguish the two, nor to compensate for variation in how dirty a person’s hands are afterward.

I imagine it’s probably true that people disproportionately wash their hands when they’re more likely to be dirty, and vice versa, which means that these 75% vs 66% numbers are not linearly related to how dirty hands really are afterward.

I think that I am more grossed out by your comments.

Although urine and fecal matter are disgusting in their own right, unwashed guy’s hands become tainted just by contact with one’s nether regions. People don’t want to shake hands with you knowing that you positioned your twig at the urinal, without washing your hands aferwards.

That probably happens more often than going to the bathroom. 😛

Anyway, I should add that I am mostly playing devil’s advocate here, because whenever I’m in the bathroom and I notice someone leaving without washing their hands, I think, “EW! What’s wrong with people?!”

I’ve always wondered if there was a gender disparity. in the men’s “wash”room, i dare say maybe 1 in 5 people actually wash their hands.
