Not Measuring Up
I’ve never felt so short in my life. As reported in the NYT, the Census Bureau’s 2007 Statistical Abstract of the United States tracked the height of people in their 20s, and their data shows that I’m the tallest, of the shortest 10%:
Taller, too. More than 24 percent of Americans in their 70s are shorter than 5-foot-6. Only 10 percent of people in their 20s are.
This doesn’t make sense than me. If you figure that roughly half the population is female, than this means that 80-90% of women in their 20s are over 5’6″. Can this be true? are 80% of girls taller than me?
